Seth Gold
Seth Gold

Perched in the dimly lighted booth at Avalon, the NYC mega club that was once a cathedral, DJ Seth Gold was spinning a retro-flavored soundtrack on a recent Saturday night.  Hopscotching across genres and decades, he mixed 80s freestyle with Baltimore club music, 60s girl group sweetness with raunchy R&B.

DJ Seth Gold, 26, has grown used to the praise, although he says he is still a bit mystified by it.
“Back in the day, I’d be playing in a dark corner, and now I’m practically on stage in this booth with people staring up and cheering me on.  I feel like Hulk Hogan just before he is about to slam down Andre the Giant.”

Born Seth Brian Goldberg, DJ Seth Gold is enjoying the perks of top guy status in the club world: money (in addition to Avalon, Gold holds a residency at Campus in NYC; he played legendary Roxy too.  Fans (he gets over 200  friend requests on myspace each week); and travel (with regular gigs in ChicagoLos Angeles, and Texas, Gold devotes two weekends each month to spinning outside of NYC.

His style on the turntables is what they call “mash up”. He has become as known for excavating obscure songs as he is for blending tracks with unlikely partners.  Jay-Z’s “Dirt Off Your Shoulder” with Def Leopards’ “Pour Some Sugar On Me”.  Madonna's Holiday spliced  with Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl."

He’s done a lot in the six years since going professional.  He’s released his own compilation cd from popular dance musiclabel, Centaur Music. He’s headlined several rave and circuit parties, including Washington DC’s popular “Cherry Party”. Most recently, he’s begun to focus on breaking into the fashion world.  Recently, he was commissioned to spin a private event for French Connection & Elle Magazine.

Sylvia Tosun
Sylvia Tosun

From the fearless abandon of the world-class dance floor to the strict discipline required to study voice at Juilliard, Sylvia Tosun is an enigma of the millennial pop pantheon.

The singer/songwriter has scored success as a hitmaker, record label proprietor, live performer and interpreter of more than a half-dozen languages—as well as fashionista and dedicated volunteer of global causes.

Foremost, she has dominated club music charts in North America and Europe, including 2008's “Underlying Feeling” and “5 Reasons,” a collaboration with Loverush UK, in 2009.

At 15, Tosun began her journey as one of the youngest sopranos ever accepted at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York, performing with the New York Grand Opera Co., and platinum ensemble the Trans-Siberian Orchestra; while volunteering and touring with the United Service Organization. Here, she developed acumen for world music, singing national anthems for USO dignitaries. This led to 2002's 10-track “Anthem: Vol. 1,” which featured native songs from the likes of Israel, Italy, Germany, France, Japan and the U.K. The project drew attention from producers of the 2005 Great Wall Concert, who invited Tosun to perform in Beijing, China, alongside Alicia Keys and Cyndi Lauper.

By 2008, already having scored a handful of club hits, “Underlying Feeling” catapulted to No. 6 on Billboard Hot Dance Club Play and No. 13 on Hot Dance Airplay; No. 1 on the DMC World Charts; and No. 2 on the U.K.'s Music Week Club Chart, stemming an ongoing studio partnership with producer/writer/DJ and Speakerbox member Anton Bass. Photographer Mike Ruiz lensed a music video that showcases couture hand-crafted by The Blonds (Madonna, Beyonce, Katy Perry).

2009's “5 Reasons” with Loverush UK (comprising producers Kinky Roland and Mark Loverush), offering an ancient lyrical incantation from Tosun, again has reached the summit on the DMC World, Music Week and Billboard charts; staying in the top 20 for 14 weeks.

Colton Ford
Colton Ford

Ford set his sights on becoming a Club/Dance and House music singer-songwriter, as well as an actor. He released several singles including "Everything" and a cover of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours". On that track, he collaborated with Club/Dance singer-songwriter Pepper Mashay. The song peaked at #9 on the Hot Dance Club Play and #25 on the Hot Dance Singles Sales charts.[2]

He released his first album, Tug of War, digitally in 2008, and he was part of the True Colors Tour 2008.

Ford has frequently expressed frustration over the difficult transition from porn to legitimate acting and a singing career. His efforts have been met with mixed critical reception. Despite his protestations, Ford's post-porn acting has heavily leaned towards the sexually explicit. His music videos frequently feature him nearly nude; in one case, the setting of the video is at a glory hole. His limited acting appearances have been in a simulated sex scene (including one with fellow singer Chris Willis), as "Butch Hunk" in the film Another Gay Sequel, and in the non-sexual role of Sheriff Trout on the sexually charged gay soap opera The Lair. To quote critic Jake Bradford of QueerOpinion: "Though Colton Ford is a half-decent singer and has a definite presence on screen, it seems that his range is limited to soap opera acting, vocoder-heavy dance music and videos that expose his flesh to within an inch of his genitals."

In his first mainstream film appearance, Ford appeared in the documentary film Naked Fame, which follows his struggles to transition from the world of porn to Club/Dance musician. Photo by joeoppedisano.com  www.coltonfordmusic.com

Paradiso Girls
Paradiso Girls

  http://www.paradisogirls.com/

Female groups have always played a pivotal role in music. The Supremes, Spice Girls and Destiny’s Child are just a few of the iconic names that come to mind. Now will.i.am music/Interscope Records is ready to write the next chapter in girl group history. And it’s titled: Paradiso Girls.

Two years in development, Paradiso Girls isn’t your stereotypical girl group. Reflecting music’s increasingly global reach, each member of this talented quintet—Aria, Chelsea, Kelly, Lauren and Shar—hails from a different country: Barbados, England, France, Philippines, and the U.S. Beyond this multicultural twist, the Paradiso Girls boast three lead singers, a rapper and a DJ.

It’s the natural chemistry emanating from this pairing that is the Los Angeles-based group’s secret weapon. Playing simultaneously to their distinct personalities and  cultural backgrounds, Paradiso Girls break the industry’s cookie-cutter mold with an edgy, left-of-center mix of pop, rock, R&B and hip-hop.

Daring yet tongue-in-cheek lead single “Patron Tequila” is proof positive of Paradiso Girls’ combustible energy. The Polow da Don-produced club jam centers around a girls’ night out getting drunk on margaritas—with color commentary provided by featured guest rappers Lil’ Jon and Eve. The song is already generating buzz in the clubs.

The same push-the-envelope vibe courses throughout Paradiso Girls’ self-titled debut album. In addition to Polow da Don, the project enlists such maverick, game-changing songwriter/producers as Gnarls Barkley’s Cee-Lo, Christopher “Tricky” Stewart, The-Dream, Sean Garrett, Fernando Garibay and Black Eyed Peas mastermindwill.i.am. Tailored to the ladies’ talents and personalities as well as their kinetic energy, each song ultimately shapes an album that doubles as a unique tribute to musical sisterhood.

Female anthem “Who’s My Bitch,” for instance, draws from French composer Georges Bizet’s classical gem “Carmen” as producer Garibay channels the essence of the Paradiso Girls. Laying irreverent lyrics—“I’m not your bitch / I’m not your ho”—against such an unexpected backdrop sparks a lightning bolt realization: Paradiso Girls definitely isn’t your ordinary girl group.

Mentor will.i.am drives home that point on the two tracks he wrote and produced, “Bad Man” and "What I like.” On the latter, the Grammy-winning artist/producer taps into the dance/electro club energy on which Paradiso Girls thrive.

Irreverence once again comes into play on the Garibay and Garrett-produced “Unpredictable.” On this fast-paced track, the ladies sassily intone: “You’re just so unpredictable / I’m so trying to get to you /You just don’t wanna behave.” The ladies are just at skillful at slowing the pace. On “Pop,” producer Cee-Lo tempers the ladies’ sensuality with just the right amount of wit and humor, while Garibay brings an atmospheric feel to the moving love ballad “Just Friends.”

Friendship is another key factor powering Paradiso Girls. Aria was a performer living in France when she met Shar (Philippines), Kelly (Barbados) and Lauren (England). The foursome decided to form a group. Six months later they met Chelsea (U.S.) and the quartet became a quintet. Relocating to Los Angeles, the five ladies began living together as they practiced and then began recording songs for their upcoming album.

That bond—coupled with talent and energy—is what will help Paradiso Girls write the next chapter in girl group history.

“We’re having fun just being ourselves, and that’s our main message,” says member Lauren. “We may come from different parts of the world with different upbringings, but we’ve all come together as one: Paradiso Girls.”

LMFAO
LMFAO

  http://www.myspace.com/lmfao

While searching for a name for his Electro/Hip-Hop group, Sky Blu decided to shoot an iChat message to his grandmother with the latest idea, seeking her opinion.
"Our new name is gonna be Sexy Dudes...what do you think of that?"
Grandma Goodfoot replied, "LMFAO".
Sky Blu, and his partner-in-rhyme, Redfoo, knew grandma was on to something.
“When we told our friends our name was LMFAO, they loved it.”
Still not completely convinced, they ran it by their parents to get their reaction. They hated it.
Redfoo's dad said, "Garbage!..I don't understand what the f*ck that means."
Sky's Blu's Mom simply replied, "That's just poopsauce."
It was then they knew their search for a name was over and LMFAO was on and poppin.
As Hollywood locals, Blu and Foo already rocked the beat as experimental Djs, who had a knack for rockin' the show by bringing electro into the commercial club scene. With their own musical aspirations, they continued to produce their own hollywood brand of hip hop and electro while constantly bringing that old school house party atmosphere.

In 2007, the duo showed up at the Winter Music Conference in Miami, and real talk, the trip's non-stop partying and feel-good vibe they experienced in South Beach ended up being the source of their musical and creative style.

“We came back to LA and things were different,” Redfoo says. "There were a couple of days where it dropped down to 55, 60 degrees and people were like, ‘Why are you wearing shorts you idiot It’s cold.’ We replied with a pimps bottom lip "No stress baby, I'm In Miami Bitch!!!!..."

On a mission to capture their party into a way of life, and get everyone else on the LMFAO wagon, they started making original dance songs in their studio apartment to play in the clubs. In true DIY (Do-It-Yourself) fashion, Red and Sky released their “I’m In Miami Bitch” song on myspace and branded their signature look -- wearing loud colors, rockin' glasses with no lenses and always stayin' fly with one of their own self-designed shirts. These boys are always on the grind touring constantly, and keeping fans updated daily with the LMFAO Dailys on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/user/redfoo). And just to add to the list of entrepreneurial projects, they keep it real with their 'do-it-yourself' approach by running their own label and clothing line, Party Rock (http://lmfao.bigcartel.com/).

Their enthusiasm and passion for creating an entire musical movement has translated in LMFAO being one of music’s most popular emerging acts on the independent scene. Sky Blu (his given name is Sky and the sky is Blu, after all) and Redfoo (the Red symbolizes his passion, and he acts a Foo.... in bed) make music that straddles genres (Electro, Hip-Hop, Club).

The group’s iTunes-released Party Rock EP features the duo’s most popular songs and they’ve enjoyed more than 2 million plays on their myspace page (myspace.com/lmfaouno). Party Rock serves as just a taste for their upcoming debut full-length album and has resulted in a loyal fan base of hyped up party animals, with over 20 fan videos!

Born and raised roaming the streets and surfin' the beach in Los Angeles’ West Side (Sky Blu is Redfoo’s nephew), the pair looks forward to achieving their objective: to give the people in the club what they want. “We want to make the earth a party planet,” Sky Blu says. “Our goal is to package this energy up and to spread it all over the face of the world,” Redfoo adds. “We want to throw the biggest party ever where everyone comes and has a blast, it gets us off. We’re trying to be the biggest we can, but with our own sound.” When asked if there was one thing they could say to the the ladies and fans out there, what would it be, they said in unison with out hesitation, "I am not a whore. But I like to do it."
